Spreading Your Influence

Ok, I admit it…I’m just a little bit peeved.

I spent the last 15 minutes deleting all the ‘comments’ on this website.  Though I read every single one, there was not ONE single comment out of 55 comments that was real. None of them had any value.

It’s a shame.  What happened to good old fashioned communication and networking?

Listen, if you’re going to spread your influence, it is wise to post your comments on other people’s blogs. If they like it they’ll allow it to be seen and you will spread your influence.  But for heaven sake…make it real!

There is a huge gap in understanding how to network in the online world.  Many companies are striving to compete for visibility online.  Google helps by looking at all the possible links to your site from other sites. Thats one reason you want to visit other companies blogs and comment.

The problem comes in when people don’t understand that online networking is the same as offline.  It must be real communicaton from real people.

But there are a lot of people who misunderstand the mission.  Networking is personal.  One to one communicaton. People to people.

What I saw in those fifty five emails that I just deleted was a glut of people hired to spread links who don’t even understand how to do it right.  These are people who don’t speak english and don’t know how to connect.  Here’s a sampling of the comments I got.  You be the judge…

1. “Utterly pent subject material, Really enjoyed reading through.”   (seriously? what does utterly ‘pent’ mean?)

2. “You are my aspiration , I own few blogs and infrequently run out from to post . I gotta favorite this website it seems very beneficial invaluable I like this post, enjoyed this one thank you for putting up.” (umm. I think you mean ‘Inspiration” ?)

3. “It is well to give when asked but it is better to give unasked, through understanding.” by Kahlil Gibran  (ok, so what does that have to do with my blogpost?)

4. “ I do not even know the way I stopped up here, but I thought this post was once great. I do not recognise who you are but definitely you’re going to a well-known blogger when you aren’t already. Cheers! (well if you don’t know why you stopped, why would I ? And the 2nd to last sentance makes no sense at all!)

5. “excellent information can be found on site . “Politics is applesauce.” by Will Rogers.”  (ok, so what does that mean?)

6. “I made a about $3 million last year just looting the hell out of (a website listed here) Man I love my life. Knowledge is power.”  (hmm. yep and knowledge of who is real and who is not is also invaluable)

7.  ”I always was interested in this subject and stock still am, thanks for posting. Some really nice and useful info on this internet site, also I conceive the design contains superb features. naturally like your web site but you have to test the spelling on quite a few of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to inform the truth however I will definitely come back again.”  (oh so…’spelling problems’ is the problem? Yet you’ll still come back? )

Ok, here’s the funny thing.  I have to admit. I’m from the US, I’m a real internet marketer and I love my site.  But…After I first started the site and got abut 30 comments I was so excited I went to my good friend and fellow internet guru who set me straight on what this was.  Spam!  And he is from another country!

If you’re going to take the time to try and spread your influence please do it wisely!

Look at other people’s blogs so you can learn from them.  When you leave comments, say something meaningful and valuable for other people to read.

It can make all the difference for your and your website!
